Lax US Gun Laws aid Drug Gangs in Mexico

Around 90 percent of weapons used by Mexican drug lords are from the United States, according to US and Mexican authorities. Stringent gun laws in Mexico forces criminals to get guns from the US. Along the border with Mexico there are countless of gun shops, gun shops that sell high powered assault weapons including "cop killing" guns. The conflict between drug cartels and local governments has forced the Mexican Army to intervene. Without army involvment, the drug lords in many areas would have taken over some Mexican border towns, since their weapons are so powerful that they overwhelm the local police. ABCNews According to ABC's World News Tonight, Bush administration has promised to help efforts against gun smuggling with a 550 Million package to fight drugs. Unfortunately less than a million would be used for that purpose.
