Russia Accused of Cyber Warfare

According to the Guardian ,Russia may be involved in the cyber attacks against Estonia's government. The attacks occurred after the Estonian government removed a controversial Soviet Army statue in the capital Talinn. The removal of the statue sparked protests by Estonia's large Russian minority. The Russian government condemned the removal. Relations between Estonia and Russia have been testy for quite a few years. Since the protests, Estonia's government websites, news sites, political parties, banks and other organizations have been knocked offline. The websites were knocked down by a bombardment of viewers viewing the sites. The attacks for the most part were from abroad. At one stage most of the IP addresses of the attackers appear to have come Russian governmental institutions. Most of the attacks occurred during a few Russian holidays that celebrated the end of WWII and another time occurred after Russian President Putin delivered a jab at Estonia in a speech, where he also attacked Bush comparing his administration to the Nazis.

Oil Victory in Iraq

While many people in the US think that Iraq is a failure, the oil firms in the US maybe thinking otherwise. According to an Iraqi draft law in its Parliament, the law would allow US oil companies to control the oil industry in Iraq. The law also proposes that the Iraqi provinces should be given responsibility over oil contracts and exploratation in their provinces. If this law passes, then it would give credence to the theory that the US was in Iraq for its oil to benefit big oil. Regarding provincial privileges, it would further the bloodshed in Iraq and may lead to the division of the entire country. This law would benefit no one. It is doubtful that the US consumer would benefit if our oil firms have a lot of power there. They have already benefited handsomely, whether its Haliburton, Chevron, or Exxon. The law would continue to incite instability and increasing anti-American (imperialists) sentiment. Oil prices also will not drop.- Al Jazeera
